Professor Leo Casey is a distinguished leader in education and lifelong learning, recognised for his transformative contributions to higher education teaching and applied educational research. As founding Director of the Centre for Education and Lifelong Learning (CELL) at the National College of Ireland, he has developed expertise in educational leadership, pedagogic innovation and industry-academic collaboration.

A hallmark of Professor Casey’s career is his deep commitment to research that addresses complex, real-world challenges in education. As Principal Investigator and lead academic on several major projects, he is well-versed with sectoral, national and international educational interventions and transformations. His current project “What makes a good teacher? Enhancing Teacher Professional Identity and Capability in Cambodian Schools,” exemplifies his dedication to international collaboration, educational development and values-based pedagogy.

Beyond his research, Professor Casey’s contributions to academic discourse in the higher education sector are widely respected. He is an accomplished speaker and experienced teacher in education theory, digital transformation and lifelong learning. As an active member of academic committees and advisory boards, he contributes his expertise to guiding research and innovation in education on a global scale.

Leo retired from is full-time role in NCI in February 2025 and now focuses on his own academic research and his project work in Cambodia.
