It’s great to be in Queensland in Australia in June 2015. The area that we are staying in is called the Fraser Coast and the local town is Hervey Bay. One of the first things you notice here is the profliteration of wildlife. These two Rainbow Lorikeeths visit every day for a feed. I have christened them George and Michael. A full flock of Lorikeeths usually follows but these two are quite possessive and scream at them to chase them away.
At the local tourist office we discussed various trips to Fraser Island and Lady Elliot Island. The team there were very helpful. I also asked if there were any Kangaroos on the area and they showed us several places nearby and sure enough there was a (what is the collective term?) gang of them grasing in the open.
Also nearby is a small lake teeming with ducks and other wildlife. That’s something that is very noticable here – human habitation sits right alongside natural habitats. There is still a sense of first settlements once you go any distance out from a town.
